Cancer mom jailed

Utica, Ohio — (WCHM News) An Ohio woman accused of faking a cancer diagnosis for her 4-year-old son has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.

Emily Creno, of Utica, pleaded no contest to felony charges of child endangering and theft, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison. She was also ordered to pay $2,955 in restitution.

Investigators said that between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013, Creno sought treatment from doctors for a variety of symptoms, including seizures. They said she created a Facebook page claiming her son had cancer, and soliciting fire and police uniform patches for the boy. Care packages and monetary donations poured in from around the country.

“This is completely out of character for me, I am really remorseful. I am very sorry for everyone involved and pray the court gives me a second chance,” Creno said in court Tuesday.
