Charges against suspected Medford arsonist dropped

Medford, Ore. — Medford Police tell NBC5 News that charges against suspected arsonist Gregory Stabile have been dropped. Police tell NBC5 that a witness misidentified Stabile.

The 29-year old Medford resident was arrested last Thursday by MPD after a witness said Stabile was the one who started a small fire between 1130 and 1134 9th Street. Neighbors put the small blaze out.

Medford Police said that Stabile was being investigated for his possible involvement in other arson fires when announcing his arrest last Friday. He was charged with arson in the 1st and 2nd degree as well as criminal mischief.

Police also arrested Debra Johns in late July, she has been charged with 3 counts of arson.

Medford saw 23 arsons in a month, an average of nearly one fire a day, between late June and late July.
