(NBC News) Senior defense officials tell NBC News that Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl will be charged with desertion, possibly within the coming week.
The Pentagon, meanwhile, maintains that a decision has not been made in Bergdahl’s case.
Bergdahl was captured by enemy forces after walking away from his post in Afghanistan in 2009 and held by the Taliban for five years.
Hew was released as part of a prisoner swap last year that sent five Taliban commanders being held at Guantanamo Bay back to Afghanistan.
