Colorado parents’ outraged after son is outed by principal during graduation

Colo — Colorado parents’ are outraged after their teenage son is outed by his high school principal during graduation.

The parents say their son wasn’t only forced out of the closet, he was silenced when he planned to come out to his family and friends during his valedictorian speech.

Alise Curry, mom, “The events of graduation week went by in a blur.”

There are plenty of parents at Twin Peaks Charter School who say they love their children, then there are those who actually prove it.

Alise Curry, “I think it goes without saying we`re unconditionally supportive of our child.”

After being outed by his principal before he had a chance to tell his parents and the rest of the world, Alise Curry`s son Evan was too embarrassed to stand in front of a handful of cameras to share his story.

Don Young, father, “Like, he wanted to put this out there.” so instead, his parents did.

Alise Curry, “So, first of all, Mr. Bachmann outed Evan to us, which was not the way Evan wanted it to happen.”

It was Mr. Bachmann who called Evan’s dad to tell him he wasn’t going to allow his son`s speech and it was also Mr. Bachmann who told Evan`s parents their son is gay.

“The act of outing someone is dangerous and irresponsible.”

Both of them had no clue, “we`re lucky in this case that Evan is in such good hands.”

The student with a 4.5 GPA with a scholarship waiting for him at Rutgers University had been silenced by an administration who didn’t feel his message was appropriate, “There was just silence, there was no acknowledgment of Evans accomplishments and as a parent that was the most hurtful thing for me.”

The job of an educator is to teach students to be more tolerant, some think the final lesson learned at Twin Peaks this year had nothing to do with that.

Alise Curry, I would appreciate a sincere apology, I’m not sure we can get one at this point.”
