This is a day that takes Amber Shannon back to her childhood.
“There were times when I was a kid, where things like this really helped my family, it’s really something special to give back where somebody else once gave to me,” Amber says.
That’s why she is okay spending her Christmas day at Rocky Tonk Saloon and Grill in Medford.
For the feed the valley dinner.
Amber says “I guess I am just one of those people that want something more for Christmas, to do something a little bigger a little outside myself.”
People of all ages came together and enjoyed a homemade hot holiday meal. Little ones spent their time making gingerbread houses. And of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without presents. For many who would’ve spent their day alone on Christmas, it was time to be with others.
“I want to thank them for putting this on for everybody that’s hungry and has no place for Christmas,” says Roger Headrick.
Ray Rokes says “It’s just wonderful, best lunch I have had in a long time.”
And just like volunteering brings memories for Amber Shannon.
“Everybody is having a good time and things just seem kind of nice, kind of calm, as they should be,” she says.
Many say they’ll remember this Christmas forever.
