Crater Lake / Klamath Regional Airport loses passenger servcie

Klamath Falls, Ore. – The Crater Lake / Klamath Regional Airport no longer has commercial passenger air service, as the last 2 United Express flights took off Wednesday morning.

Marisa Timm graduated from Henley High 3 years ago as an exchange student from Germany.

Without air service, Timm says it’s going to be a lot harder to visit friends, and her host family…

“We live out in Merrill. It’s just super easy to come here, it’s 20 minutes away – and if we have to drive to Medford, that’s quite a drive.”

Kimberly Wilson was on the last flight, heading back home to Portland…

“Now it’s back to driving, and it’s a long drive. It will mean it will continue to be an infrequent visit.”

In addition to passengers hugging as they said ‘goodbye’, air crews were also hugging as they said ‘goodbye’ to co-workers.

Many of the T.S.A. agents are how headed to different airports.

“We’ve had air service since 1947, uninterrupted.” Notes Airport Business Manager Linda Tepper. “So to see what could potentially be our last flight leaving Klamath Falls, it’s a little sad.”

The airport restaurant, and car rental services are expected to remain open…for now.
