Rogue River, Ore. — The largest fire is burning about eight miles south of the city of Rogue River on “Old Blue Mountain” near Foots Creek.
It was estimated at 40 acres around 10pm Monday.
The Oregon Department of Forestry has air tankers helicopters and engines working the blaze.
They’ll be there through the night building a fire line.
We’ve gotten calls from homeowners in the area who say they can see flames from their homes, even from Interstate 5.
There are no evacuations for this fire at the time of this writing.
There’s also two fires, both less than a quarter acre, outside of Jacksonville. They’re in the Sterling Creek and Forest Creek areas of Jackson County and in southeastern Josephine County.
ODF says it’s staffed fires on Gray Back Mountain and in the Williams creek area.
ODF officials believe all these fires were caused by lightning and while crews are stretched thin they’ll continue to monitor the weather and chase any lightning sparked fires as they pop-up.
