District Attorney says officer was justified in shooting and killing Grants Pass man

Grants Pass, Ore. — The Josephine County District Attorney says police were justified in shooting and killing a Grants Pass man one month ago.

On September 21st, Grants Pass Public Safety responded to a shooting on Blossom Drive in Grants Pass. 34 year old Daniel Diaz barricaded himself inside his home after threatening his cousin across the street.

The investigation by the Josephine Major Crime Response Team revealed that two officers fired at Diaz after he fired a shot at a neighbors house.

But, according to the report, Diaz had put on 7 layers of clothing. One of the officers bullets burrowed into the clothes near his neck, but did not actually hit his body.

About 20 minutes later, Diaz aimed a handgun at another officer. That officer fired back, hitting him in the chest.

Diaz continued moving around the home and it wasn’t until approximately three hours later that a SWAT team entered to the home to find him dead.

Several rounds were found on his body and throughout the house.
