Driving Safety In Icy Conditions

It started off with just snow, but as temperatures dropped, the number of car accidents around jackson county began to rise.

The icy roadways are to blame for a lot of accidents over the weekend.

In fact, Jackson County Dispatch received a total of 252 motor vehicle involved crashes from Friday at midnight until noon Monday.

Some people even abandoned their cars.

Vicky Williams is a bus driver with the Rogue Valley Transportation District.

She knows her way around a tough winter having previously driven busses in Klamath Falls.

“When it’s dry ice it’s not bad but when it becomes wet it’s really slick,” said Williams.

William’s said some of her passengers are using the bus because they are afraid to drive their own cars.

Bob Jones of Southern Oregon Driver Education says driving safe in icy conditions starts the minute you approach your car. And regardless if you have chains or not, you still need to take your time.
