Back in court…three of the four people arrested during marijuana raids in May appeared in front of a Jackson County Circuit Court Judge.
It was an emotional reunion outside a Jackson County courtroom Monday afternoon.
The no-contact order was lifted between Lori and Leland Duckworth.
“I’m feeling very glad I get to go home, be with my husband tonight…we’re gonna have family dinner together,” said Lori Duckworth, Executive Director at SONORML Cannabis Community Center in Medford.
The two have been together for nearly 21 years and now they’re co-defendants in a marijuana raid case.
But it wasn’t all good news for the Duckworths. Five additional charges were added on both of them…one count of racketeering, three counts of money laundering, and a count of possession of marijuana in a substantial quantity of more than 150-grams.
“I’m shocked there are additional charges,” said Duckworth.
In late-May, Lori and Leland Duckworth as well as two others were arrested during marijuana raids in the Rogue Valley. SONORML in Medford, was one of the medical marijuana establishments that was raided. The Duckworths are charged with 22 Class-A felonies each. Conspiracy to commit unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1000-feet of a school.
“Just to clarify it was a private pre-school kindergarten,” began Duckworth.
“We acted in full compliance of Oregon Medical Marijuana laws at all times.”
But the ordeal is still far from over as Lori and Leland Duckworth await their next court date on August 12th where it’s expected the defense lawyers will have had more time to see what evidence the prosecution will bring against their clients.
