Erickson Aircranes gearing up for fire season

Central Point, Ore. — A local company that plays a huge role in fighting fires around the world is gearing for a busy fire season for our region.

Erickson is an aviation company headquartered in Portland. They build their aircraft in Central Point. The company’s signature Aircranes can carry more than 2,600 gallons of water and are vital for fighting wildfires.

“We can use this asset to pinpoint into fires and get very accurate water or create boundaries or fire lines so this asset is very very essential for battling wildfires,” Erickson Crew Chief Rylan Macallister said.

An essential tool for another dry and potentially dangerous season.

Erickson’s manufacturing plant is one of Southern Oregon’s largest employers. They experienced layoffs in February that claimed 150 jobs. They recently hired back seven people.
