Fire Narrowly Misses Jewelry Store

It’s a phone call that every business owner dreads.

“I got the call at about 3:50 A.M. They told me that my business Gold & Gems Fine Jewelry was on fire and you need to come down as soon was you can,” said business owner Ron Hansen.

Luckily by the time Hansen arrived at his store front, fire crews had already extinguished the blaze.

“I raced down here and found that the flames had just been put out but our whole store was just filled with smoke,” said Hansen.

He tells us that there is some smoke damage to his wall, although he feels very lucky that none of the jewelry was destroyed.

“If the flames were to have entered the building it would have been a huge disaster. Somewhere in the 2 to 4 million dollar range,” said Hansen.

Hansen tells us that Gold & Gems Fine Jewelry has been in his family for over 30 years.

Police are still investigating whether this fire could be associated with other crimes that took place in Ashland early Monday morning.
