Cave Junction, Ore. — A Cave Junction home erupts in flames.
“There’s butane. There’s butane gas!” cries an unseen woman, heard on the dash cam, “Please not the house, not the house!”
This dash cam video from the Illinois Valley Fire District details the scene. Two people living on Takilma Road are rushed to the hospital with second and third degree burns.
“All of a sudden there’s lights everywhere,” says David Conas. He’s a night guard where the Mercy helicopter picked up the injured woman in critical condition.
“They fly right over the baseball diamond and into the parking lot,” describes Conas, “They took her away. The male was in the parking lot for close to an hour. They were working on him and then drove off.”
Not only were two people hurt, but the sounds coming from the home also meant trouble. “We had a number of propane tanks going off, and a number of bullets going off inside the scene,” Chief Dennis Hoke, from the Illinois Valley Fire District, tells us.
He tells us that made it incredibly dangerous for crews to approach the home.
“If you are trying to put it out and there’s bullets going off,” says Conas, “…it wouldn’t be the best place to go.”
The home is a total loss and the cause is still under investigation.
