Firefighters rescue puppy from well

Grants Pass, Ore. — A Grants Pass family is relieved after being reunited with their puppy thanks to Grants Pass Firefighters.

The six-week old Black Lab/German Shepherd mix doesn’t even have a name, but she sure has a story.

The dog tumbled 25-feet into a dry well in the Ramirez family’s garage. Getting her out was a major challenge.

“We didn’t know what to do so we were just trying everything,” the puppy’s owner, Mario Ramirez, said.

After a few failed attempts to rescue the pup they called Grants Pass Fire.

“He was dark colored so he was hard to see,” Batallion Chief Randy Delonge said. “He was moving around and you could tell he wanted to get out he just didn’t know how to get out.”

After a little brainstorming the group grabbed some wire holding up the family’s trampoline net. They attached it to a metal pole and made a loop. They had to act quick.

“She was starting to lose oxygen down there,” Ramirez said.

After two attempts the pup was pulled to safety. The close call ended with a sweet reunion for both family and firefighters.

That dog is just one of the puppies the Ramirez family has, they said they’re keeping her and may even name her Hope.

They’re looking for loving homes for the other four puppies. If you’re interested call Mario Ramirez at 541-226-1820.
