First look into new Naumes Crush and Fermentation Facility

MEDFORD, ORE. — Naumes,a Rogue Valley company known for growing pears for more than a century is breaking into the wine business with a new crush and fermentation facility.

Naumes wine maker Chris Graves is excited to be a part of the new project.

“I think there are going to be great quality wines coming out of here and it’s gonna help drive the recognition and reputation of the entire valley,” Graves said.

Graves says the biggest difference between the new custom crush facility, where they’ll create create wines for others, and a traditional winery is technology.

“We have software systems and computers we use for running and monitoring data and all the information. So a lot of it compared to an old fashion winery is the technology available out there to make a better products,” said Graves.

Some of that will eventually be seen in the company’s on-site laboratory.

“I’m big into the science, it’s important for wine making,” Graves explained.

The company has also invested in some of the latest and most up to dateequipment.

Another plus for the company is a wine storage area, one of the largest in Southern Oregon, at 13,000 square feet.

Construction will only take a few more weeks and the entire facility should be up and running August 1st.
