Freed felon angers Klamath County Sheriff

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A Klamath Falls man accused of trying to run over a deputy, and leading police on a high speed chase early Thursday morning is out on bail tonight.

And that has the Sheriff angry.

Sheriff Frank Skrah says deputies were checking out a suspicious car in a Klamath Falls alley when the suspect sped off…

“Deputy Mitchell had to dive out of the way. The vehicle missed him by about a foot and a half.”

Skrah says 62 year old Russell Ray Moore led cops on a chase at over 100 miles an hour before he was finally stopped by spike strips, and arrested.

Skrah says Moore has 59 felony convictions…

“Mr. Moore’s criminal background is weighed by the pound, not by the page.”

Skrah says Moore had an Oregon Trail Card, and over $3300 in cash.

Skrah says he wants to be able to seize that money until it’s cleared by tax authorities, but he can’t in Klamath County.

“We’ve asked for a money laundering ordinance for the last umpteen months from the commissioners,” Notes Skrah. “And they have given us a deaf ear.”

Moore immediately used the money for bail, and Skrah isn’t happy Moore is back out on the street…

“I’m not going to have another deputy banged up, shot up, whatever – and if you think I’m angry, you’re damn right I am.”

A judge approved a search warrant for Moore’s car.

Detectives say they found 3 grams of suspected methamphetamine, digital scales, and suspected stolen property.
