Future of the VA SORCC’s Veterans Memorial Golf Course uncertain

White City, Ore. — The future of Veterans Memorial Golf Course at the VA SORCC in White City may be uncertain.

Veterans have been using the private nine-hole course for nearly three decades. However, some people familiar with the course fear it may be on the chopping block.

Volunteers said it’s much cheaper than other courses, and it provides a healthy way for veterans to relieve stress during their treatment.

“It’s just an avenue for them to just get away from their normal day to day issues, and just have fun doing, or enjoying what golf has to offer,” Don Richie said.

NBC5 News asked a spokeswoman for the White City facility about the future of the course. She would neither confirm nor deny the rumors that it is closing, but she did indicate an announcement is expected Friday.
