Hazmat crews respond to chemical leak

Phoenix, Ore. — Hours after a chemical spill at a Phoenix truck stop Hazmat crews finish cleaning up Monday night.

A truck driver spotted the leak at the Petro truck stop around 3:40pm Monday afternoon.

Fire District 5’s Division Chief Darin welburn says it was coming from the trailer of a semi-truck in the parking lot “We found that we had a truck leaking an unknown product and what we have is a box trailer on a semi that has a mixed load in there and it’s unknown exactly what’s leaking. We have about 8 different placarded items in the truck.”

The chief says it was an alcohol-based chemical not hazardous to health outside the containment area.

The trucks owner will not face charges because the spill was deemed accidental.
