Krisanna Albrecht often answers phone to victims of domestic violence.
“The Woman’s Crisis Support Team offers services to victims of domestic assault and sexual abuse andstalking365 days a year,” says Albrecht.
Services range from a support system,shelter and even creating a safety plan.
“We help them figure out what there resources are. Often time victims aren’t ready to leave.”
From the end of November to the New Year, the combination of holiday stress, alcohol and family tension are often to blame.
The Grants Pass Police Department says every year around this time they plan on responding to more calls about domestic cases than any other time of the year. But this year, the numbers are down.
“Over the past month or so we’ve seen a slight decrease in the amount of disturbances we’ve been responding to. And we didn’t have any on Christmas day,” said Grants Pass Police Sergeant Misty English.
Medford Police, however are seeing an increase.
83 calls since December 1, comparted to 75 during the same time period last year.
Meanwhile, data released by the National Resource Center on Domestic Violence found that between 2004 and 2012 there were often just as many if not more cases the weeks following the Christmas holiday.
But albrecht who receives between 3,500 and 4,500calls a year stresses: domestic violence can happen to anyone, anywhere at anytime.
