“Hug me like you love me,” Deputy helps couple to safety in Junction fire

(KSEE) Families evacuated as the “Junction” wildfire raced toward their Oakhurst, California homes earlier this week are sharing incredible stories of survival.

Richard Conrad was racing trying to load his truck with his dogs and wife, Beverly, who’s in a wheelchair. He knew he couldn’t lift her into his truck and she wouldn’t be able to get her in on his own. That’s when a Madera County Deputy showed up.

The deputy stood in front of Beverly and said “Hug me like you love me.”
