Jackson Elementary receives $75,000 grant

Medford, Ore. — A Medford elementary school received a grant geared toward improving early childhood education.

The Oregon Community Foundation awarded Jackson Elementary School a $75-thousand grant at Monday night’s school board meeting.

According Jackson Elementary’s Principal, Kelly Soter, the grant will allow the school to implement new programs for young kids “P-3 is prenatal to grade 3. So it’s really from 0, birth, to age 8, with the ultimate outcome of improved learning outcomes by the end of grade 3.”

Pre-school programs could be funded by the grant money, which Soter says are in short supply in Southern Oregon.

The school has the opportunity to receive up to $225-thousand in grant money from the foundation over the next three years.
