Veronica Rhodes lost her job three weeks ago. Wednesday she went to Worksource Oregon’s career center checking on the status of her unemployment check.
“It’s kind of scary things are uncertain but I have a few side jobs,” says Veronica Rhodes.
But Rhodes says those side jobs won’t cut it so she’s looking for a full time job.
The eagle point resident is one of the 9.5% of Jackson County residents who are unemployed based on statistics from October.
That’s a one percent decrease from October 2012’s unemployment rate of 10.5%.
“Overall the economy is growing we were four years away from the bottom of the recession,” says Regional Economist Guy Tauer.
Tauer says consumer confidence is also up and fields like manufacturing, retail trade, and construction are each showing significant growth.
Rhodes says she hopes to find her spot as a home caregiver. She believes she knows exactly what employers are looking for.
“I’m not worried so much about finding employment because I have a few irons on the fire so to speak,” says Rhodes.
That confidence along with positive job growth propelling Rhodes forward back into the job market.
Jackson county’s unemployment rate for November will be due out next week. Local economists are optimistic for 2014.
