Klamath Falls Officer Involved Shooting

A officer involved shooting leads to the death of a suspected car thief in Klamath Falls…many heard the shots just as they left for work this morning.

Armed police swarmed the 1600 block of Portland Street shortly after 8:30 this morning.

David Blanchard says he watched as police staged in the area…

“Then I went into the house for just a moment, and that’s when I heard three gunshots – and it sounded like from the same gun – it was a ‘pop, pop – pop’ like that.”

Klamath County District Attorney Rob Patridge confirmed that those shots were fired by police…

“We had an officer involved shooting this morning, related to the City Police Department.”

Police had contacted 52 year old Matt Borner, a suspect in a stolen vehicle investigation. Borner was later identified as the man shot in a confrontation with police – it’s unclear if Borner was armed.

District Attorney Patridge made the confirmation…

“The stolen motor vehicle suspect, Matthew David Borner, who’s about 52 years old, is deceased, involved in this officer shooting.”

The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave until the investigation is completed.

The Klamath County Major Crime Team has been activated, and the scene of the shooting is being processed by Oregon State Police.

District Attorney Patridge notes that the investigation is still in the early stages. All of the officers involved, and many neighbors in the area are still being interviewed.
