Klamath Falls SWAT raid nets guns, drugs

Klamath Falls, Ore. — SWAT teams seize guns and drugs during an early morning raid at a Klamath Falls home.

The early morning raid on Gary Street woke up neighbor Kimberly Hamlin…

“I got woke up at four in the morning to what sounded like shotguns going off – ‘boom boom boom’ all over the neighborhood. Loudspeakers tell you, ‘Come out, we have guns’ – and the street just lined up.”

Trooper Scott Sheldon of the Oregon State Police says the warrant was served at the home of 31 year old Colton Destry Rich…

“When SWAT arrived, Mr. Rich barricaded himself in his residence, and possibly destroyed some evidence.”

That standoff lasted a little over an hour.

Police say Rich tried to dig a hole in the floor of his mobile home to escape…police then fired gas into the home.

“I saw them bring Colton out – he looked hurt.” Says Kimberly Hamlin. “And then after that, they went in with masks.”

Police say they found 23 guns inside, at least 5 of them were stolen.

Officers also seized methamphetamine, marijuana, and a suspected stolen motorcycle.

Rich faces multiple drug and theft charges…no additional arrests are expected at this time.

State Police say the raid and warrant service were triggered by citizen complaints about possible drug trafficking in the area.
