Local innovators featured in new Smithsonian exhibit

Wilderville, Ore — Two southern Oregon businesses are getting national recognition. Alltrax of Wilderville and Brammo, based out of Talent will soon share a Smithsonian foundation exhibit alongside the likes of Silicon Valley and Henry Ford.

The places of invention exhibit is a look at innovators both past and present and next year, a couple local businesses from right here in the Rogue Valley, will be featured as businesses who are leading us into the future.

Driving with the power of 40 horses, Damon Crockett and his electric motor control company Alltrax of Wilderville are leading a revolution in new technology.

“We kind of had to focus on where can we make the biggest impact and be a viable business and certainly small electric vehicles serve a lot of people,” said Crockett.

Alltrax, along with Talent based Brammo motorcycles, will be a part of the Smithsonian Foundation in Washington, D.C.

“The idea is really to cultivate a appreciate of invention’s role in American history right up to the present,” said Arthur Mollella.

The ‘Places of Invention’ exhibit is set to open in 2015 at the Lemelson Center in the National Museum of American history.

Center officials say small innovators like Alltrax were a perfect fit for the exhibit.

“So much of this is happening because of a coming together of different disciplines and you certainly know that from the Green inventions that you’re talking about,” said Mollela.

For Crockett and his 20 employees, the honor of joining innovators like Henry ford and will only add to his drive to innovate.

“There’s over 150 thousand electric vehicles out there with our drive electronics in them, so if we can build a million in the next couple years, that’d be a good thing,” said Crockett.

Brammo and Alltrax will be featured in an interactive video display in Washington D.C. but you can also interact at home by visiting Invention.Smithsonian.Org.
