Man arrested after giving false report

0219 police reportGrants Pass, Ore. — A man is arrested after officers say he issued a false report of an assault.

The Grants Pass Department of Public Safety says 29-year-old John Miranda called 911 to report he had been threatened with a knife, before fighting the attacker off. When officers responded, Miranda provided a detailed description of the man, and added that the man attempted to stab him.

Police say about 30 minutes after the alleged incident, officers and detained a man that matched Miranda’s description of the suspect.

A detective responded to help with the investigation. Police say after making inconsistent statements, Miranda confessed that he had made the story up.

The detained man was immediately released after being provided a hot meal, and Miranda was arrested on an initiating a false report charge.
