Man Arrested After Setting His Home On Fire; Fled From Scene

Officials were searching for a suicidal man early Tuesday morning, who allegedly set his house on fire earlier.

Officials with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department say Michael Johnson had called a family member, and told them he was setting his house on fire, and that he wanted to die in that fire.

Officials with the sheriff’s department were called out to the scene on 1010 Chevney Drive in Shady Cove just after 1 am, where they found a fire set in the front room of the house.

After searching the home, it was determined Johnson was not there.

The fire department was called, and put out the fire.

Meanwhile, Johnson called that family memeber again, and reported he was in the Shady Cove Market, and wouldn’t come out until someone he knew was there.

Officials searched the area, but did not find him.

Johnson called a third time, saying he was going to live in the woods with his dog, and was heading up into the mountains.

Officials found him a short time after that, near his house.

He was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct.

Right now, officials are looking into filing other charges including arson and reckless endangering.
