Mars candy joins the fight in getting people to cut back on sugar intake

A candy giant appears to be joining the fight to get people to cut back on added sugar.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Mars is backing a proposal to include measurements of added sugar in mandated nutrition labels for food.

Mars is also backing calls for consumers to limit their added sugar to 10% of their daily calorie intake.

Mars makes such iconic candies as M&M’s and Snickers.

Currently, the FDA has not proposed a specific limit on sugar.

Critics have accused food companies of keeping sugar consumption limits off nutrition labels.
