Medford family without a home after fire

Medford, Ore. — A Medford family of three is without their home after a Tuesday evening fire.

Fire investigators believe the blaze started when they left their BBQ unattended. The tenants rented the home on Beekman Street which is considered now a total loss. Neighbors in the area alerted the residents of the fire as they stood by and watched.

“Every neighbor, neighbors we’ve never even seen before, they were out here, and everybody was out here. We just seen the flames shooting up from the back of the house and it was just like popping.”

Fire officials say cooking and unattended fires are the leading cause for house fires. Officials say radiant heat did minor damage to the neighboring vacant home.
