Medford P.D. awarded for saving man’s life

Medford, Ore. — Medford Fire and Rescue gave an award of commendation to police officer Greg Nichols Tuesday afternoon.

Nichols was out enjoying dinner with his family March 27th at Roadhouse Grill, when he noticed a man choking on a piece of steak. He was off the clock and out of uniform but that did not stop his training from kicking in.

Officer Nichols immediately rushed over to give Darell Edwards the Heimlich maneuver which saved his life. Edwards and his wife are now calling officer Nichols their hero.

Nichols said, “thankfully I was there at the right time and the right place. Its always nice to be honored by your peers…I mean, this is the training we get every year. There’s no greater honor than to save someone’s life.”

When asked where he will place his award he said, he would put it on the wall next to his other awards. However, he mentioned, this award was the most special.
