Medford, Ore. — Police are warning people about a scam that targets the elderly specifically grandparents.
It’s even called the grandparent scam.
Police say criminals will find names of grandparents in a database call them up, disguise their voice, and claim to be their grandchild.
The specifics of what they say varies cases to case but it’s usually that they’re out of town and in jail and need money immediately.
Some good tips from Medford Police Lt. Mike Budreau: “Always be wary when someone calls you and asks you to wire money for any reason and that’s common sense but these scammers are good and sometimes have these elaborate stories that are very believable.”
