Medford puppy goes on 700 mile journey after being stolen from backyard

Medford, Ore.– Shabana Ali said she got the news she’d been waiting to hear for months, her puppy is coming home.

Ali said on August 29th someone stole her five month old Coton De Tulear puppy, Leostraight out of her fenced backyard off Bennett Avenue. The search for Leobegan.

“We made flyers and put them everywhere in the neighborhood looked some more. He had tags and a microchip so I was surprised that nobody had called.”

It took more than a month. Then someone did call. From nearly 700 miles away. An animal shelter in the Los Angeles area had Leo.

“They told me that he had been hit by a car and that’s how he ended up in the shelter.”

Ali said the shelter had little information. Just that someone brought him in with a fractured pelvic bone, leg, and hip. The shelter able to reach her because of Leo’s microchip.

“Thank goodness for the microchip,” said Ali.

She said Leo will be on his way to Medford with a volunteer this weekend. And he’ll need surgery. But now she’s just feeling lucky.

“I’m just happy and thrilled that he’s going to be home and that we can’t wait to see him.”

Ali said she filed a police report when Leo was stolen. No word tonight on who took him.

Ali also started a Go Fund Me page to help pay for Leo’s surgery.
