Medford, Ore. — In a press release sent out by the Medford School District Sunday, Superintendent Dr. Phil Long detailed the districts plans in the case the Medford Education Association (MEA) does strike February 6th.
Long stresses that the district plans to keep schools open in the event of a strike. The district and the school board will be working to find substitutes teachers.
According to the press release, the district alleges that union members have made threatening phone calls to local substitute teachers saying “…we encourage the union to end the threatening calls that it is currently making to substitute teachers in our community.”
The teachers union and the district have been in contract negotiations for nearly a year, with some of the big sticking points including working conditions, wording, pensions and pay.
