Mountain Pine Beetle killing trees

ASHLAND, ORE. — There are growing concerns about the Mountain Pine Beetle killing pine trees in our forests.

In just the past few weeks, the City of Ashland has had to remove 9 pine trees from the Mountain View Cemetery.

Mike Morrison, the superintendent with Ashland Public Works, says the number of trees infected in the city is more than he’s seen before.

Besides removing the infested trees, there’s not much they or anyone can do to prevent the bugs from spreading.

Morrison says he isn’t sure what is drawing the beetle’s to our area, but says dry conditions aren’t helping.
