MPD Looking For Man They Say Fired Shots in W. Medford Neighborhood

The last night of 2013 was sleepless for Cara Nokes.

She says “gun shots and fireworks and bottle rockets. They were going off in the sky, the sky was just lit up.”

Nokes and many of her neighbors near Clark and Broad say they heard gunshots early New Years morning.

“From down this road here, down here too, there were guns going off,” she says.

Medford Police Sgt. Tom Ianieri says a fight started between two brothers, and escalated.

He says “there was evidence that shots were fired, a couple casings were located but no injury and no damage to property that we no of.”

Sgt. Ianieri says they know who they’re looking for but aren’t releasing a name. He does say the suspect should be considered dangerous.

“Obviously anyone firing a handgun in the city limits, that’s a danger,” he says.

And with that comes serious charges.

Sgt. Ianieri says “there’s unlawful discharge of a firearm in the city limits, wreckless endangering, several other charges.”

A terrifying start to 2014, too close to home for Cara Nokes.

“We had bullets hitting here right here in the field by my house, could’ve killed somebody, could’ve killed one of the dogs.”

We did speak with the mother of the two men allegedly involved. She says there was never a gun and no shots were fired. We will continue to follow this story as it develops and bring you updates as they become available.
