Narrow Road Near Prospect Causing Concern

A small residential road.

Some parts of the road are as narrow as 16 feet.

Making it tough for anyone to share the road.

“Often times you’re actually on the shoulder,” says resident Norman Wood.

With large trucks hauling equipment and logs back and forth from the thousands of acres of federal and private timberlands.

“The only way to get to it, is by this road right here,” says Wood.

That’s why long time resident Norman Wood wants the road widened.

He says the last time upgrades were done on this road was decades ago.

Wood says “routine maintenance yes, no improvements whatsoever in 45 years.”

Wood says it’s especially dangerous for kids walking on the road.

“When kids want to go into Prospect, they have to walk this, why put the kids in danger when there’s no need in it.” says Wood.

He says city officials have occasionally come to trim back bushes and trees but they are still overgrown.

But he thinks more needs to be done.

“What would be a benefit is to widen it,” Wood says.

And he wants his tax dollars…

“The money is funneled from up here down to projects in the valley.”

To make their way closer to his home.

Wood says “why not improve some roads up here, we pay taxes just as well as everyone else.”

He’s hoping someone hears his point and fixes this road before someone gets hurt or worse.

The Jackson County Roads Department says the majority of county roads are below the new construction standards of 32 feet wide.

And because they don’t perceive there is a safety problem, it is not on any lists right now for upgrades.
