National investigators visit local VA facility

White City, Ore. — Government workers were in White City Thursday as part of the ongoing investigation into the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The investigation comes after allegations that veterans across the country are facing deadly waiting times for health care, and agency officials are covering it up.

White City VA facility representatives said government workers went through records and looked at how veterans are scheduled electronically.

Reports came out last month of 40 veterans dying while waiting for appointments at the VA Health Care System in Phoenix, Ariz setting off a nationwide investigation.

The VA facility in White City serves thousands of veterans.

“They’ve been a stellar facility that we have got nothing but positive feedback on,” Congressman Greg Walden said.

But that doesn’t mean they’re exempt from investigation.

“The fact there is evidence in a couple cases behooves us to go and take a thorough look,” U.S. Secretary of Veteran’s Affairs Eric Shinseki said at a congressional hearing Thursday.

White City VA facility representatives said the investigators were only there one day.
