Non Essential Emergency Room Visits Increase Exponentially

Hospitals and health officials around the nation should be prepared for an increase in emergency room visits as new health care laws kick in.

Anew study, published by the Journal of Science, found that patients who have recently gained access to Medicaid because of the Affordable Care Program are going to the emergency room 40 percent more than often than those who already had health care.

The study also shows they were seeking help for conditions that could be treated less expensively in a doctors office or an urgent care clinic.
