Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Continues

Investigators still aren’t saying if a man shot and killed by Klamath Falls Police last week was armed…

Carolyn Rarden lives across the street from where police shot and killed Matt Borner…

“”Here comes these two police officers with the assault rifles, into our neighbor’s driveway right over here.”

Police say Borner was a suspect in a vehicle theft.

Rarden believes the vehicle in question belonged to Borner…

“Apparently he and a girlfriend had some kind of a falling out, and she borrowed his car or something, and he took it back – she got mad, so she called the police on him, and said it was a stolen car.”

Borner was killed in a confrontation with police.

It’s still unclear if Borner was armed.

“There was a woman police officer back there, and she kept yelling at him to get down.” Recalls Rarden. “She said, ‘get down on the ground – no, don’t stand up, get down on the ground.’ So, I don’t know what the situation was that he wouldn’t stay down.”

KOBI has put in a formal request for a copy of the 911 call that may contain clues as to what potential threat officers believe Mr. Borner may have posed. So far, there’s been no response to that request.

The officers involved are on paid administrative leave until the investigation is complete.

Carolyn Rarden lives less than a block away from where 18 year old ‘Temo’ Jimenez was shot and killed just four years ago.

While she says she keeps her doors locked, Rarden says she still feels safe in the neighborhood.
