Oregonian calls for Kitzhaber’s resignation

The editorial board of ‘the Oregonian’, the state’s largest newspaper, is tonight calling for Governor John Kitzhaber’s resignation.

In an editorial posted online late this afternoon, the board wrote that Kitzhaber and his fiance, Cylvia Hayes, live in an “apparently borderless world of public policy and private gain” and said if Kitzhaber wants to serve his constituents, he should resign.

If Kitzhaber resigns, Secretary of State Kate Brown would take over, based on Oregon’s line of succession. At a press conference last Friday the Governor said he has no intention of resigning.

In a statement to KGW, Kitzhaber said, “I was elected to serve the citizens of the state of Oregon and I intend to continue to do so.”

The Oregonian editorial said Kitzhaber has broken faith with Oregonians.
