Person of interest in Siskiyou Co. murder back in Jackson Co. court

Medford, Ore. — The man who authorities believe may have played a role in a Siskiyou County murder changed his mind in a Jackson County courtroom yet again.

Last week Mathew Raye Baker originally said he would allow himself to be extradited to California. At the time that he made the decision, he was unable to sign the official paperwork because jail deputies had him strapped down. They told the judge Baker couldn’t control himself.

The next time Baker appeared in court, he had changed his mind and said he wasn’t the guy police were looking for.

Then on Wednesday he reverted back, saying he’s willing to voluntarily return to Siskiyou County.

California authorities have 21 days to pick him up from the Jackson County Jail.

He was arrested in Talent for his alleged role in the murder of 60-year-old Dale Bowen who lived in Mount Shasta.
