Police: another suspected arsonist arrested

Medford, Ore. — Medford Police say they arrested another suspected arsonist. 29 year old Gregory William Stabile has been charged with arson, after a female witness says she saw Stabile start a fire next to a structure in the 1100 block of W. 9th Street on Thursday at around 5:00 p.m.

Medford Police say Stabile then walked away and the female witness began to put the fire out with a garden hose. A passerby who saw the fire stopped to help put out the flames, as Stabile returned to the scene with a six year old girl on a razor scooter. The female witness then identified him as the suspected arsonist, and he and the little girl fled northbound. A male witness chased after them on foot while calling 911. Stabile was caught by Medford Police in the parking lot of Parole and Probation on 1101 W. Main St.

Two structures were damaged in the fire, but the fire was put out quickly by the witnesses and Medford Fire and Rescue.

Detectives say the arson was a random act and will be working to determine if he’s responsible for any of the recent string of unsolved arsons in Medford.

If you have any information regarding Stabile or a little girl on a razor scooter, Medford Police say to call them at 774-2230, attn: Det. Jim Williams.
