Every summer thousands of people flock to Jackson County Fair.
Bringing in the majority of the Expo’s yearly income but it soon maybe lights out for the Expo all together.
Last week the Jackson County Budget Committee recommended giving the Expo roughly 760-thousand dollars for the first three months of the fiscal year.
If the expo can’t stay self sufficient for the remainder of the year with the money raised at the fair….both the expo and fair may get the ax.
“We are not going to authorize anymore money after those three months of the 1st quarter unless they have enough money of their own through the remaining 9 months to be at zero,” said Jackson County Commissioner Don Skundrick.
But Expo director Dave Koellermeir is being optimistic and says there will be fairs for years to come.
“It’s unfortunate because of the pressure on budgets be it city, county, federal it’s a lot of pressure, with that said,I like where the fair board has taken usI think we are in a very good position to become self sufficient,” explained Koellermeir.
And in order to do that, the Expo plans to house more year round concerts that will be privately funded.
“That takes a lot of risk away from what we were doing as a public body, it will not becoming out of the expo’s budget.”
But only time will tell if it’s lights outs for the Expo.
Thiss year’s fair is scheduled for July 16-21.
Ticket prices for the fair will also come down this year.
Some of the major act’s expected here this year are Weird Al Yankavich and Third Day.
Tickets will go on sale in June.
