Proposed bill aims to track police profiling in Oregon

Salem, Ore. –The goal of a series of bills in the Oregon legislature is to combat profiling in the state.

On Monday in Salem, a hearing was held on the bills that define profiling, prohibit it, and begin tracking it.

Michelle Glass, the Lead Organizer with Oregon Action said Oregon is one of eight states that does not currently ban profiling.

“Right now we have no system in place to track profiling so we can’t say whether there’s a problem, how big the problem is who it impacts, who it doesn’t and that in and of itself is a problem,” said Glass.

According to Oregon Action, in Oregon law enforcement agencies in Portland and Washington County have started to collect data on profiling.
