Proposed renovation for Ashland Water Shed trails

Ashland, Ore.– A packed house filled a meeting room in the Ashland Library Thursday night.

Hikers, bikers, and equestrian riders all took a peak at a proposed plan to renovate the watershed trails from the U.S. Forest Service.

The plan would combine current trails, un-authorized trails and add new ones, and take awaythosethat are in steep terrain that areunsustainable.

The plan would come out to 40 acres that the U.S. Forest service said would conserve the watershed trails best and give everyone a chance to enjoy them.

Six years ago Rob Cain with the Ashland Woodlands and Trails association brought up the concern to the forest service, that there are more people enjoying them and less room. So they wrote up a plan.

Thursday night a result of his efforts that have cost him and the group $45,000.

Cain said it’s one step closer to having a final plan. The one showcased at the meeting also has some equestrian riders concerned. They said they hope the forest service looks into the part where all the trails come together; a potential forcollisionswith hikers, bikers, and riders.

The forest service said they are considering all suggestions. Public comment was not taken at the open house but people can turn in written comments to the forest service until thebeginningof February.
