Runaway teen won’t face charges

ASHLAND, ORE. — There is no doubt that Hannah Thomas Garner’s runaway case got a lot of attention on social media.

Over the weekend, people expressed relief that she was found, but many also were upset, wondering if she will face any repercussions for the money spent on the search for her.

Ashland Police Chief Terry Holderness says Hannah will not face any charges since running away is not a crime.

While search and rescue teams did spend several days combing Dead Indian Memorial Road, the location Hannah was last seen before she ran away,it was just part of their investigation.

“Search and rescue are mostly volunteers. So, how do you recover for a volunteer’s time And we put out the resources, we normally put out in a case, this one was a little more extensive,” said Chief Holderness.

Investigators would like to talk with Hannah about her reasons for running away.

But other than that their case is closed.
