Sleepy Hollow blaze destroys homes

Wash. –(NBC News) Families are tallying their losses after a raging wildfire destroyed more than two dozen homes in Wenacthee, Washington.

The fire is now more than ten-percent contained, and more than 200 firefighters are working to make sure that lingering hot spots don’t flair back up.

Officials say conditions in Wenatchee and throughout the western United States remain dire, setting the stage for a record breaking fire season.

“Things are lining up to be, could be a very active July and August as the fuel conditions continue to dry out,” warns Steve Gage, Assistant Director of Operations for U.S. Forest Service Fire and Aviation Management.
