Timber Payments Extended

Cash-strapped counties could soon see a little more money headed their way.

This week congress cleared the transportation bill — which includes a one-year extension of timber payments.

Those payments have brought millions of dollars into Oregon and State Senator Ron Wyden — says the extension is an important step for counties in our area.

“We worked with the Obama administration to make the county payments mandatory, so I’m very pleased about that.”

According to Wyden — about 100-million dollars will be distributed to 33 of Oregon’s 36 counties. Legislators will have one more year to figure out what to do next.
