Travelers Stuck at Airport Christmas Morning

It was all smiles for many people at the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport where families were reunited on Christmas day.

“My grandma is from Billings and so is my Grandpa,” began Kourtney Sundheim who is from Corvallis but is visiting family in Medford.

“And then my brother is from Ft. Hood Texas,” she continued.

However, not everyone was feeling the holiday cheer.

“The fog, it was really thick this morning,” said Rogue Valley resident Ellen Erickson whose flight was delayed.

She said the weather was responsible for holding up travelers who were slated to be on an early morning flight to San Franciso.

“It’s now 11:30 and our plane’s not going to leave for another hour and we still have a five hour layover in San Francisco,” said Brian Fahey who was visiting family in Medford.

He and his travel partner Shannon Lewis were headed to Ontario, California. But Ellen Erickson who was supposed to be on the same flight was preparing for an even longer trip to see her son and grand

The roughly six hour delay on Christmas morning, throwing a wrench in holiday plans.

“We’re kind of disappointed,” said Fahey.

“I’m trying to get home to see my family but it’s not going to happen today. We won’t get in until 8:30,” Lewis said.

“I’ll probably have Christmas tomorrow,” began Erickson.

“There was a Santa walking around here but it was hard to to feel ho ho ho when your flight is delayed that long,” she laughed.

However, moments later they had boarding passes in hand and waited to make their way out as others like Kourtney Sundheim’s grandparents were on their way in.

“It’s been seven years since we’ve spent Christmas with family,” she said.
