Two arrested for murder, robbery in Cave Junction

CJ MURDER SUSPECTSCave Junction, Ore. — Two people are in the Josephine county jail facing murder, robbery, and theft charges.

On Wednesday, Oregon State Police troopers responded to the report of a single vehicle crash on Highway 199 near Cave Junction.

The driver, William Roberts, 39, was pronounced dead on scene.

The initial investigation revealed Roberts had drifted off the road and struck a tree. According to OSP, it was later discovered Roberts had suffered a gunshot wound to the back of his head. His wallet, cell phone, and handgun were also missing from the vehicle.

Detectives identified Cave Junction residents Renee Lee Edrington, 39, and Kyle James Forester, 29, as the suspects. They were arrested just before five Saturday morning on a property on the 2200 block of Redwood Highway in Cave Junction.

OSP said Edrington was armed with a handgun and advanced on troopers before her arrest. Troopers deployed less lethal impact rounds in order to get her into custody.

Forester was taken into custody without incident. OSP said the two were had been in a confrontation with Roberts, and were following him in a car when they shot him in the back of the head. Authorities say they then returned to the scene and stole his belongings.

The investigation is ongoing.
